AI Call Center
An AI call center is a phone operation where inbound and outbound calls are answered by AI voice agents in natural conversation instead of by human agents. The agent listens, works out what the caller wants, answers from your knowledge base, books appointments and hands off to a person when the call needs one.
This page is written for businesses running β or standing up β a phone operation: call concurrency, PBX integration, team management and reporting. If you are a small business that simply cannot get to the phone, the AI voice agent page is closer to your situation.
What is an AI call center?
In a traditional call center, capacity is headcount. Ten people answer ten calls; the eleventh caller queues, waits, and often hangs up. Shifts, leave, peak hours and seasonality keep moving that ceiling around.
In an AI call center the software answers. A voice pipeline runs the conversation: the caller's speech is transcribed as they speak, a language model works out what is being asked and composes a reply, and the reply is spoken back. The loop closes in well under a second, so the caller does not experience waiting β they experience a conversation.
One distinction matters: this is not an IVR. Nobody presses 1 for sales. There is no menu tree and no fixed script. The caller says what they want in their own words, and the agent answers in its own.
How it differs from a traditional call center
| Dimension | Traditional call center | AI call center |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity | Limited by headcount | Limited by your plan's concurrency; raised instantly |
| Hours | Bounded by shifts | Continuous β nights, weekends and holidays included |
| Peaks | Queues form, calls are lost | No queue until the concurrency limit |
| Training | Every new agent is trained from scratch | Update instructions once; every agent has it |
| Consistency | Varies by person and by day | Same behaviour in the same scenario |
| QA coverage | A sample, usually reviewed by hand | Every call, with transcript, sentiment and outcome |
| Complex, sensitive calls | Where humans are strongest | Handed off to a human |
That last row is the point. The goal is not to remove the human team; it is to give repetitive, high-volume, predictable calls to the agent so people spend their time on conversations that actually need a person. In practice the setups that work best are hybrid: the agent takes first contact, filters, and passes on only what warrants it.
How it works
What happens over the course of a single call:
- The call arrives. On a number provided by Jently, or over SIP from your own carrier or PBX.
- The agent answers with the greeting you configured. On outbound calls it opens already knowing who it is calling.
- The conversation runs. Speech to text, model, text to speech, in a loop. Noise cancellation runs on the inbound audio, so callers on a moving car or a poor line are still understood.
- The agent does work. Answers from the knowledge base, books into your calendar, calls your API to look up an order, takes notes.
- It hands off if needed. Cold or warm transfer to a person; a message if nobody is reachable.
- The call closes and the record is written. Transcript, summary, sentiment, outcome, structured notes and cost β delivered onward by webhook.
What the agent can do
Answer inbound calls
Responds from your knowledge base and routes the caller correctly.
Place outbound calls
Reminders, confirmations, surveys and lead qualification campaigns.
Manage appointments
Checks availability mid-call, books, reschedules and cancels.
Hand off to a person
Cold transfer, or a warm transfer that briefs the human first.
Reach your systems
Calls your own APIs during the conversation and tells the caller the result.
Produce a record
Transcript, sentiment, outcome, quality score and per-call cost.

Who it fits
An AI call center earns its place once call volume passes a threshold and a meaningful share of those calls repeat. Typical profiles:
- E-commerce and retail: order and delivery status, returns, promotion questions. Volume swings hardest here, so queues bite hardest.
- Healthcare and clinics: booking, rescheduling, reminders. A missed call converts directly into an empty slot.
- Hospitality and travel: availability, reservations, transfers β frequently in more than one language.
- Logistics and field service: shipment tracking, service tickets, delivery confirmations.
- Finance and insurance: policy and payment questions, first-line triage.
- Agencies and integrators: teams running separate agents and numbers for many clients, often under their own brand.

Does it work with my existing PBX?
Yes β and this is usually where the decision turns. Most AI calling products are closed boxes: you take their number, and the operation moves to their side. For a business with an installed PBX, existing carrier contracts and numbers customers have dialled for years, that is disqualifying on its own.
Jently connects over SIP to what you already run. Your number stays yours, your carrier does not change, your PBX stays where it is. You can also give the agent a slice of the operation rather than all of it:
- A single extension or campaign number,
- Out-of-hours only,
- Overflow calls your team could not reach,
- Or a first-contact layer that filters and passes the rest to people.
This is the practical way to keep the risk small: run the agent on one number and one scenario, read the transcripts, then widen. There is no need to hand over the whole operation to find out whether it works.
How many languages?
Agents speak 40+ languages and can greet each caller in their own.
For operations whose callers do not share one language, this replaces a hiring problem. In health tourism, callers in Arabic, German, Russian and English land on the same number; in hospitality the same is true all season. The traditional answer is to employ multilingual agents β expensive, hard to recruit and impossible to cover across every shift. The agent answers the same number without needing to know which language is coming.
How the cost works
The model is simple: a monthly or annual subscription with minutes included. If you run out of minutes, you add a prepaid pack. There is no metered overage, so a charge beyond your plan only happens when you choose to buy one.
Plans differ on three things: monthly minutes, concurrent calls and storage. The number of agents is not capped, so there is no extra cost to running a separate agent per scenario.

Recordings, GDPR and KVKK
A phone call produces personal data, and audio recording deserves particular care. This is usually the first question an enterprise buyer asks, so:
- Recording is optional and configurable per agent. You can run on transcripts and summaries alone, storing no audio.
- Consent can be captured in the call. The agent can give notice in its greeting and store the consent record.
- A Data Processing Addendum is published covering roles, security measures, sub-processors, breach notification, international transfers and audit rights.
- Retention is yours to set for both recordings and transcripts.

Setup and rollout
- Create the agent. Its role, instructions, greeting and voice.
- Upload the knowledge base. Product information, price lists, FAQs β the agent answers from this.
- Connect a number. Take one from Jently, or bring your own over SIP.
- Test, then read. Reading the first days' transcripts is the fastest way to fix the instructions.
- Widen the scope from the scenarios you have seen work.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to set up an AI call center?
If your number is ready, the first agent can be live in an afternoon: creating the agent, uploading the knowledge base and connecting the number take minutes. The real time goes into deciding what the agent should say, not into the software. Connecting an existing PBX over SIP can add a few hours on the carrier side.
Do I have to replace my existing phone system?
No. Jently connects to your existing PBX or carrier over SIP. Your numbers stay yours and nothing has to be ported. You can point the agent at a single extension, at specific hours, or only at calls your team could not pick up.
How many calls can be handled at once?
Concurrency depends on your plan and is not limited by headcount the way a human team is: raise the limit and capacity increases immediately, with no hiring or shift planning. On Enterprise, concurrency is set to fit the operation.
What happens when the AI does not know the answer?
It hands off rather than inventing something. A cold transfer sends the call straight to a number or extension; a warm transfer lets the agent brief the human first and then drop off. If nobody is reachable, it takes a message and stores a summary of the conversation.
How are call recordings and personal data handled?
Call recording is configurable per agent, so you can run the whole operation without storing audio at all. Recordings, transcripts and personal data are processed under GDPR and Turkey's KVKK, and our Data Processing Addendum is published.
Which languages can the agents speak?
Agents speak 40+ languages and can greet each caller in their own. This tends to matter most for operations whose callers do not share one language β health tourism, hospitality, logistics and export sales.
How does billing work, and can costs surprise me?
A monthly or annual subscription with minutes included. If you run out, you add a prepaid minute pack. There is no metered overage billing, so a charge beyond your plan only ever happens when you buy a pack.
How do I measure conversation quality?
Every call is transcribed, then scored: sentiment, call outcome, structured notes and a quality score. Per-call cost is recorded too, so you can see what each scenario actually costs to run.
Can I run outbound campaigns?
Yes. Upload a contact list, set the calling windows and retry rules, and the agent works the list during the hours you allow. Columns from your list become variables in the conversation, so the agent speaks knowing who it called and why.
Can it connect to my own systems?
Yes. The agent can call your APIs mid-conversation to look up an order, check stock or open a ticket. When the call ends, the transcript, outcome and structured notes are delivered to your system by webhook.
